While Whitney Wolfe Herd isn't based in Silicon Valley and didn't raise billions in venture capital, her company, Bumble, had one of the most high-profile technology IPOs of the year so far, in a milestone moment not just for her business but for female founders generally. She set out to create a women-focused social network before landing on the concept of a female-focused dating app. Bumble requires women searching for heterosexual matches to make the first move, the idea being that this feature would empower women to make their own choices. Anne-Marie Imafidon was the youngest girl ever to pass A-level computing at age 11. She knows what it takes to encourage young women into STEM careers. She founded STEMettes where she lives, in the UK with a vision of creating a supportive community for young women in STEM, an ecosystem for young women to be inspired by each other, building “STEM-confidence”. . .
