The impact of "greedy work" practices on women's ability to advance in the technology sector cannot be overstated. What is greedy work and how do you overcome it?
tomorrow and tomorrow book
Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow
Gabrielle Zevin's #1 Bestseller (2023) is a beautifully told story of love, friendship and betrayal. It's set in the 90's and involves characters in their mid-20's who meet and develop a long-lasting friendship through a love of video game design that shoots them to stardom and success. A stylish and intricate page-turner!
Imposters Handbook Book
Imposter's Handbook
Rob Conery spent years teaching himself the subjects that go into a Computer Science degree. He looked at the curriculum for Stanford and MIT (and a few others) and dove in. Computation, Complexity Theory, Cryptography, Algorithms and Data Structures and more. He wrote it down, including hand-drawn sketches to simplify the complex, and he decided to share it all. If you don't have a CompSci degree but feel like you should, this book is gold.
Making of a Manager Book
The Making of a Manager
The Making of a Manager: What to Do When Everyone Looks to You by Julie Zhuo is a fresh and feisty guide to getting results and respect in your early managerial roles. Julie is VP of Product Design at Facebook and this book is the guide you need in early management. Based on her own experience, fails and learnings through a hectic hyper-growth startup in Silicon Valley. So many gems in here.
More-than-a-Glitch- Book
More Than A Glitch
More than a Glitch: Confronting Race, Gender, and Ability Bias in Tech by Meredith Broussard came highly recommended and won't disappoint. The author is a data scientist and one of the few Black female researchers in artificial intelligence. She masterfully demonstrates how neutrality in tech is a myth and why algorithms need to be held accountable. Be prepared for groundbreaking insights.
Head & Heart Book
Head & Heart - The Art of Modern Leadership
We loved "Women Kind", Dr Kirstin Ferguson's prior book; this one is another top-drawer favourite. The F Factor was fortunate to have had Kirstin speak at one of our early meetups and she was just brilliant. This book is a game-changer. Three decades of business experience plus research plus wisdom equals a fresh and modern perspective and guide in a beautifully actionable book.
Career & Family BOOK
Career & Family
"Career & Family - Women's Century-long Journey Towards Equity" by economic historian and labour economist, Claudia Goldin is a must-read. This is a Nobel Prize-Winning book with groundbreaking research that gives anyone who cares about the gender pay gap, deep insights into the fundamental changes required to the way we work and how we value caregiving if we are ever to achieve gender equality and couple equity.
BOOK women who run with the wolves
Women Who Run With The Wolves
Author, Clarissa Pinkola Estés reveals how within every woman there lives a Wild Woman, filled with passionate creativity and ageless knowing, but repressed for venturing by a value system that trivialises emotional truth, intuitive wisdom and instinctual self-confidence. Unique and transformational!

Mentoring

Mentorship can change your life. Bold statement, but entirely true. Access to opportunities in tech should be open to everyone, no matter one’s background, sexuality, gender identity, or skin colour. Mentorship provides a safe space for candid conversations. Mentors can give direct steps and advice based on their experience and perspective, while mentees begin tracking toward a career goal. Mentoring relationships can also provide network extensions that connect people who may have never met, opening doors to new opportunities.
