Junior Software Engineer

Immutable and Project F

Immutable has signed up to participate in Project F’s Program 50/50 from January 2021. The program will require them to work with us to identify and remove the systemic barriers for women in tech teams and leadership so that they can sustainably build gender-balanced teams. This is an investment in their future sustainability and one we are delighted they are making, as such a young business today.

The work on Program 50/50 is not easy and requires a consistent focus on structural change, removing bias from processes and systems and shifting the narrative on diversity and inclusion. Co-founder James Ferguson is the Executive Sponsor of the program at Immutable. Samantha Weinreich, Head of People & Culture is leading the change and facilitating the program across the company. The unique challenge of achieving gender balance within the subculture of technology has been made a strategic imperative so that Immutable can challenge the status quo in the sector and grow a healthily balanced business.

About Immutable, in their words

Gamers spent more than $100 billion on in-game items last year. However, $0 of that went to other players - it mostly went directly to huge free-to-play game studios. At Immutable, we're all about ownership: using blockchain technology to provide gamers with real and "immutable" ownership, rather than licensing agreements, over the items they've worked so hard to acquire.

Powering the world's most popular blockchain games, Immutable builds marketplaces and infrastructure so that game developers can provide better value to their users and introduce free-market economies inside their games. A critical part of that ecosystem is our upcoming launch of Immutable X, our cross-game item marketplace and exchange functionality.

It will offer fast, reliable trades with minimal transaction fees and will support both first- and third-party assets that function within the Immutable ecosystem. Immutable X is non-custodial, meaning users will have complete control over their assets at all times and won't have to place their trust in any central entity to hold and manage their assets for them.

A bit about the role

Immutable is building a technical and automation-focused QA team so first and foremost this team needs software engineering capabiliy. The team is involved in planning, validating and supporting new features for their games Gods Unchained and IMX. The team write tests, read code and participate in code review when needed.

As a part of this team, you will develop strategies and measurements of quality, validate the product with manual and automated testing, work as a connection between developers and end-users to make sure we are solving the right problems with correct tools.

You will work with a game squad to identify potential risks in new features for GU and develop plans to avoid them in the future with automation tools, customer support systems or overall process improvements. You will have an opportunity to creatively explore the product, get creative and have technical input into the development of new features of the game.

Immutable uses cutting edge technologies like blockchain and various web development technologies like Cypress or Jest that you would not usually be exposed to in game development. Through your role, you will have the chance to learn and be mentored by highly experienced industry professionals and grow your technical skills.
